Fentanyl

A Pharmacology term on the RCIS & RCES exam blueprint, defined for cath lab and EP clinicians.

A synthetic opioid providing analgesia, typically dosed in 25–50 mcg IV increments. Rapid onset (1–2 minutes) and short duration (30–60 minutes) make it well suited to procedural sedation. Watch for respiratory depression and, less commonly, chest wall rigidity with rapid high-dose administration.
