MRI-conditional devices and protocols

An ICD & CRT Therapy term on the RCES exam blueprint, defined for cath lab and EP clinicians.

Many contemporary devices are MRI-conditional under specific scanner and programming conditions (typically requiring the device to be placed in a designated MRI-safe mode immediately before the scan and returned to normal programming immediately after, with monitoring throughout). Devices and leads not labeled MRI-conditional require a risk-benefit discussion and, where unavoidable, specific institutional protocols for monitored scanning.
